you turned me on
like others turned me off
deep, deep inside the valley
where I found myself
roaming dry riverbeds in scorching heat
you picked me up
fed me
nourished me
and gave my heart a reason
to beat again
giving my lounges
a reason to breathe again
and my wings a reason to fly
if only, once more
the scars I came with
scars carried over lifetimes
centuries of misled kindness and cruelty
cruelty only a satan could admire
a burden hard to carry
as the night fell hard
on the unconscious creature
resting in your arms
welcoming the night
and rest to follow
as the light entered my sleepy eyes
clearing your pillows of comfort away to see
raising my body from the safety of sacred dreams
dreams you enter and never want to leave
awoken from the screams of nightmares from a past
a past that should be nothing else
but the past
I turn my head and look around
the flowers that met me
when I first arrived
were not the same
as the ones that were there
when I left
dear little barfly
fly away
and leave me alone
