the eyes of the perfect stranger(Arnold Melleby, 03.28.2017)

I am a man and here I am
full of love, color and anger
tall I stand ready to hit the shore

what kind of land I am in for
I do not know
I threw the map away a long time ago

sailing the mighty oceans
hitting land after too many mouthfuls of salty water
I`m here to conquer not just to go ashore

maybe I`ll find someone to love
apart from whom I`ve faced in the mirror
each and every day of this voyage

my feet on dry land and sand between my toes
I set fire to my ship and push it back out to sea
perhaps another mistake, I do not know

what I came here to find
might be hidden in between the lines
in the logbook I never wrote

I look around as I lie down on the beach
watching my ship sink as it passes the reef
where are the ones I was supposed to conquer

am I all alone
draped in loneliness
all over again

the darkness of the night
soon cast shadows over my sleeping, weary soul
and left my lonely thoughts astray

in my dreams I saw it all
the eyes of the perfect stranger
finally looked my way

everything was in a perfect sense of order
puffy clouds, butterflies and sunsets into forevermore
waking up on the cold and lonely beach

the eyes of the perfect stranger
is nowhere within sight
and my mirror is all but gone

head down in the sand
looking up into the bluest of skies
a fogfilled brain ready to surrender

whatever happens to me
happens to me
where are the eyes of my perfect stranger
